Agakhanovite-(Y)

Agakhanovite-(Y) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula YCa   ₂KBe₃Si₁₂O₃₀.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6/mcc). It is a member of the Milarite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 2.672; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Agk-Y, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

Found in miarolitic cavities in granitic pegmatite and crystallized from late-stage hydrothermal solutions enriched in yttrium.

It is found associated with Microcline, albite, quartz, milarite, kristiansenite.

The mineral was named to honor Atali A. Agakhanov (b. 1971), mineralogist at the A.E. Fersman Mineralogical Museum, Moscow, Russia, who has worked on a wide variety of pegmatite minerals.
