It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/c). It is a member of the Alcaparrosaite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 4; specific gravity 2.8; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Apr, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.
Formed by the oxidation of pyritic masses under increasingly arid conditions, likely at a relatively early stage.
It is found associated with Intergrown with coquimbite, associated with ferrinatrite, krausite, pertlikite, pyrite, tamarugite, voltaite.
The name refers to the Alcaparrosa mine, Chile, from where the first specimens were collected.
