Arrheniusite-(Ce)
Arrheniusite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula CaMg[(Ce₇Y₃)Ca₅](SiO₄)₃(Si₃B₃O₁₈)(AsO₄)(BO₃)F₁₁.
It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R3m). It is a member of the Okanoganite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 4.78; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.
IMA symbol Arr-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2020.
Found in a Bastnäs-type, rare-earth element (REE) deposit in a metasomatic F-rich skarn.
It is found associated with Dolomite, tremolite, talc, magnetite, calcite, pyrite, dollaseite-(Ce), parisite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(Ce), fluorbritholite-(Ce), gadolinite-(Nd).
The mineral was named to honor Carl Axel Arrhenius (1757-1824), a Swedish officer and chemist, who discovered the first REE-bearing mineral, later named gadolinite-(Y).
