Åskagenite-(Nd)

Åskagenite-(Nd) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Mn²⁺Nd(Al₂Fe³⁺)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]O₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Epidote structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 3.737; Brown streak; Resinous luster.

IMA symbol Åsk-Nd, IMA status: approved, named in 2009.

Found in a granite pegmatite.

It is found associated with Potassic feldspar, quartz, bastnäsite, thorite, Nd-dominant analogue of allanite-(Ce), brookite, gadolinite-(Y), allophаne.

The name refers to the quarry that produced the first specimen and indicating the predominance of Nd over other REE in the A2 structural site.
