Bario-orthojoaquinite

Bario-orthojoaquinite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ba₄Fe²⁺₂Ti₂O₂(SiO₃)₈·H₂O.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Ccmm). It is a member of the Joaquinite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 3.96; Pale yellow streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Bojq, IMA status: approved, named in 1979.

Found in a block of highly fractured basalt subjected to high-pressure metamorphism and serpentinization.

It is found associated with Benitoite, baotite, fresnoite, natrolite.

The name refers to its BARIum content, ORTHOrhombic symmetry, and membership in the joaquinite group.
