Bobmeyerite

Bobmeyerite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Pb₄(Al₃Cu)(Si₄O₁₂)(S₀.₅Si₀.₅O₄)(OH)₇Cl(H₂O)₃.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnnm). It is a member of the Cerchiaraite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 4.381; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Bmy, IMA status: approved, named in 2012.

Found as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of a polymetallic sulfide deposit.

It is found associated with Atacamite, caledonite, cerussite, connellite, diaboleite, fluorite, georgerobinsonite, hematite, leadhillite, matlockite, murdochite, phosgenite, pinalite.

The mineral was named to honor Robert (Bob) Owen Meyer (b.1956) of Maple Valley, Washington, USA, who collected the specimens used in this study.
