Bortolanite

Bortolanite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ca₂(Ca₁.₅Zr₀.₅)Na(NaCa)Ti(Si₂O₇)₂(OF)F₂.

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1). It is a member of the Seidozerite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 3.195; Pale yellow to beige streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Btln, IMA status: approved, named in 2022.

Of late magmatic origin, in the matrix of evolved subvolcanic phonolites and nepheline syenite pegmatites.

It is found associated with Götzenite, nepheline, alkali feldspar, aegirine, natrolite, analcime, manganoan pectolite.

The name is derived from the locality, Bortolan quarry, where the studied material was collected.
