Burovaite-Ca

Burovaite-Ca is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Na,K)₄Ca₂(Ti,Nb)₈[Si₄O₁₂]₄(OH,O)₈·12H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Labuntsovite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 2.73; Vitreous luster.

IMA symbol Brv-Ca, IMA status: approved, named in 2008.

Found in cavities in microcline in the hydrothermal zone of aegirine-microcline pegmatite.

It is found associated with labuntsovite-Mn, lemmleynite-Ba, analcime, apophyllite.

The mineral was named to honor chemist Tat’yana Alexandrovna Burova (1896-1975) who studied minerals of the Khibiny, Lovozero, and Vishnevye gory plutons, including the labuntsovite group.
