Burroite

Burroite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula Ca₂(NH₄)₂(V₁₀O₂₈)·15H₂O.

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1). It is a member of the Pascoite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 1.5–2; specific gravity 2.43; Yellow streak; Vitreous luster.

IMA symbol Burr, IMA status: approved, named in 2016.

From the oxidation of montroseite-corvusite assemblages in a moist environment. The NH4+ presumably from organic matter in this roll-front uranium and vanadium deposit in sandstone.

It is found associated with Schindlerite.

The name is taken from the type locality, the Burro mine, Colorado, USA.
