Bykovaite

Bykovaite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (Ba,Na,K)₂(Na,Ti,Mn)₄(Ti,Nb)₂O₂Si₄O₁₄(H₂O,F,OH)₂·3.5H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2/m).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 2.98; White streak; Silky luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Byv, IMA status: approved, named in 2003.

Found in the core of a zoned pegmatite in poikilitic nepheline-sodalite syenite of the central part of an alkaline igneous complex.

It is found associated with Vuonnemite, ussingite, bornemanite.

The mineral was named to honor analytical chemist Alexandra Vasilyevna Bykova (1917-2001).
