Carlgieseckeite-(Nd)
Carlgieseckeite-(Nd) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula NaNdCa₃(PO₄)₃F.
It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P-3). It is a member of the Apatite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 3.91; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.
IMA symbol Csk-Nd, IMA status: approved, named in 2010.
Found in small cavities in veins of saccharoidal albite cross-cutting augite syenite.
It is found associated with Analcime, fluorapatite, albite.
The mineral was named to honor Carl Ludwig Giesecke (1761-1833) for pioneering research in the mineralogy of Greenland; the suffix (-Nd) reflects the dominance of Nd over other REE in the composition.
