Cassagnaite
Cassagnaite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ca₄Fe³⁺₄V³⁺₂(OH)₆O₂(Si₃O₁₀)(SiO₄)₂.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Cmcm). It is a member of the Ardennite structural group.
Key properties: specific gravity 3.22; Nearly white streak; Vitreous luster.
IMA symbol Csg, IMA status: approved, named in 2006.
Filling fractures in braunite and quartz layered mineralization developed under prehnite-pumpellyite facies metamorphism.
It is found associated with Braunite, quartz, piemontite.
