Chabournéite
Chabournéite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfosalt class, with the chemical formula AgzTl₈₋ₓ₋zPb₄₊₂ₓSb₄₀₋ₓ₋ᵧAsᵧS₆₈ (with 0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.40, 16.15 ≤ y ≤ 19.11, 0.04 ≤ z ≤ 0.11).
It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P1). It is a member of the Chabournéite structural group.
Key properties: specific gravity 5.104; Red-brown streak; Submetallic to greasy luster.
IMA symbol Chb, IMA status: approved, named in 1976.
Found in a hydrothermal deposit in dolomitic limestones with other As–Tl minerals (Jas Roux, France).
It is found associated with Pierrotite, parapierrotite, stibnite, pyrite, sphalerite, twinnite, zinkenite, madocite, andorite, smithite, laffittite, routhierite, aktashite.
The name refers to Chabournéou Glacier, near the Jas Roux deposit, France.
