Chalcostibite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfosalt class, with the chemical formula CuSbS₂.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnma). It is a member of the Chalcostibite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 3–4; specific gravity 4.95; Metallic luster.
IMA symbol Ccsb, grandfathered status — known before the IMA’s founding, named in 1847.
in association with other sulfosalts and sulfides in hydrothermal veins.
It is found associated with Jamesonite, chalcopyrite, pyrite, tetrahedrite, stibnite, andorite, stannite, dadsonite, siderite, barite, quartz.
Its name comes from the Greek chalkos, copper and stibium, antimony.
