Davinciite

A very rare eudialyte-group mineral with a complex sodium-potassium-calcium-zirconium silicate formula.

Intro adapted from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA).

Davinciite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Na₁₂K₃Ca₆Fe²⁺₃Zr₃(Si₂₆O₇₃OH)Cl₂.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R3m). It is a member of the Eudialyte structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5; specific gravity 2.82; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Dvc, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.

Occurs as relict inclusions in rastsvetaevite in a hyperalkaline nepheline-sodalite pegmatite.

It is found associated with Rastsvetaevite.

The mineral was named to honor Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), Italian scientist, painter, sculptor, and architect.
