Delhuyarite-(Ce)

Delhuyarite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ce₄Mg(Fe³⁺₂W)   (Si₂O₇)₂O₆(OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Chevkinite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5–6; specific gravity 5.196; Dark brown streak; Adamantine luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Dhu-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2017.

Occurs as inclusions in a mass of cerite-(Ce) and percleveite-(Ce) in a metasomatic skarn, REE deposit of the ‘Bastnäs-type’.

It is found associated with Cerite-(Ce), percleveite-(Ce), tremolite-actinolite, bastnäsite-(Ce), magnetite, quartz, chalcopyrite, ferriallanite-(Ce), törnebohmite-(Ce), scheelite.

The mineral was named to honor mineral chemists and metallurgists, Juan José (1754-1796) and Fausto Fermín (1755- 1833) de Elhuyar y de Lubice.
