Dissakisite-(La)

Dissakisite-(La) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula CaLa(Al₂Mg)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]O(OH).

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Epidote, allanite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6.5–7; specific gravity 3.79; Gray-greenish streak; Pitch-like to vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Dis-La, IMA status: approved, named in 2003.

By hydration and enrichment in LILE and LREE of a garnet-bearing peridotite body, in relation to HP-migmatization of the surrounding gneisses during an orogeny.

It is found associated with Olivine, spinel, amphiboles, clino- and orthopyroxenes, clinochlore, uraninite, thorite, thorianite, phlogopite, zircon, apatite, calcite, dolomite.

The suffix, La, indicates the lanthanum analog of dissakisite-(Ce).
