Dugganite

Dugganite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Pb₃Zn₃(TeO₆)(AsO₄)₂.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P321). It is a member of the Dugganite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 6.33; White streak; Adamantine luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Dug, IMA status: approved, named in 1978.

An alteration product of khinite and parakhinite, formed under acid oxidizing conditions from gold-telluride ores in massive vein quartz (Tombstone, Arizona, USA).

It is found associated with Khinite, parakhinite, bromargyrite, chlorargyrite, cerussite, emmonsite, other tellurium oxysalts (Tombstone, Arizona, USA).

The mineral was named to honor Marjorie Duggan (1927–), American analytical chemist, who first analyzed Te6+ from nature.
