Dussertite

Dussertite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula BaFe³⁺₃(AsO₄)(AsO₃OH)(OH)₆.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3m). It is a member of the Alunite-crandallite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 3.75; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Dst, IMA status: approved, named in 1925.

Found in the oxidized zone of some base-metal deposits, typically an alteration product of arsenopyrite.

It is found associated with Beudantite, carminite, scorodite, arseniosiderite, stibiconite, goethite, quartz.

The mineral was named to honor Desiré Dussert (1872–?), French mining engineer who worked in Algeria.
