Ferricoronadite

A lead-manganese-iron oxide of the hollandite family discovered in 2016 near Nezhilovo, North Macedonia.

Intro adapted from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA).

Ferricoronadite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula Pb(Mn⁴⁺₆Fe³⁺₂)O₁₆.

It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system (space group I4/m). It is a member of the Coronadite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 5.538; Brownish black streak; Submetallic to metallic luster.

IMA symbol Fcor, IMA status: approved, named in 2015.

Found in hydrothermal veins that cut metamorphic rocks in an orogenic complex.

It is found associated with Franklinite (relics), gahnite, quartz, roméite, almeidaite, Mn-analogue of plumboferrite, zincohögbomite analog with Fe3+ > Al, zincochromite, Zn-bearing talc.

The name refers to a member of the coronadite group with Fe3+ as the major charge-compensating octahedral cation instead of Mn3+.
