Ferriperbøeite-(La)

Ferriperbøeite-(La) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (CaLa₃)(Fe³⁺Al₂Fe²⁺)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]₃O(OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Gatelite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 4.51; Brown streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Fpbø-La, IMA status: approved, named in 2018.

Nodules of the deposit have a contact metasomatic origin, probably developed during fenitization of granitic pegmatites in the exocontact of an alkaline intrusion.

It is found associated with Perbøeite-(La), allanite-(Ce), allanite-(La), bastnäsite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(La), ferriallanite-(Ce), ferriallanite-(La), ferriperbøeite-(Ce), perbøeite-(Ce).

The suffix indicates the La-analogue of ferriperbøeite-(Ce).
