Ferro-fluoro-edenite

Ferro-fluoro-edenite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula NaCa₂Fe²⁺₅(Si₇AlO₂₂)F₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/m). It is a member of the Amphibole structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5–6; specific gravity 3.358; Light brown streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Ffed, IMA status: approved, named in 2020.

Found in cavities in volcanic ejecta probably crystallized during a late-stage hydrothermal phase.

It is found associated with Quartz, magnetite, vonsenite.

Prefixes indicate the Fe2+ analogue of edenite with fluorine dominant in the W site.
