Fluorarrojadite-(BaNa)

Fluorarrojadite-(BaNa) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula BaNa₄CaFe₁₃Al(PO₄)₁₁(PO₃OH)F₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group Cc). It is a member of the Arrojadite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4.5–5; specific gravity 3.61; Pale yellow streak; Vitreous to greasy luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Fajd-BaNa, IMA status: approved, named in 2016.

Found in hydrothermal quartz veins in highly fractionated, topaz-zinnwaldite S-type leucogranite.

It is found associated with Fluorapatite, triplite, viitaniemiite, potentially new mineral “fluordickinsonite-(BaNa)”, albite, orthoclase, muscovite, fluorite, Mn-siderite, rhodochrosite.

Indicates a member of the arrojadite group (Fe2+ dominant at the M sites) and suffixes for dominant Ba at the A1 and Na at the B1 sites. The prefix “fluor” indicates dominant F in the W site.
