Fluorvesuvianite

Fluorvesuvianite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ca₁₉(Al,Mg)₁₃(SiO₄)₁₀(Si₂O₇)₄O(F,OH)₉.

It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system (space group P4/nnc). It is a member of the Vesuvianite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6; specific gravity 3.46; White streak; Vitreous silky luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Fves, IMA status: approved, named in 2000.

Found in coarse grained, chloritized diopside skarn.

It is found associated with Vesuvianite, clinochlore, sphalerite, calcite.

The prefix fluor indicates the F-dominant analog of vesuvianite.
