Crystal systemHexagonal
ClassVanadate
Gurimite specimen

:Locality: Gurim Anticline, Hatrurim Formation, Negev Desert, Israel Size: 1.4 × 1.1 × 0.3 cm Description: Gurimite is a very rare and chemically simple species. It is a barium vanadate, but in this sample we can observe the presence of P, very common on V minerals. This sample is from the type locality, the Gurim Anticline, in Israel. Gurimite

One of the simplest barium minerals — barium vanadate — named for Israel's Gurim anticline.

Gurimite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the vanadate class, with the chemical formula Ba₃(VO₄)₂.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3m). It is a member of the Palmierite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 5.044; White streak; Vitreous luster.

IMA symbol Gur, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

A common accessory mineral in thin veins of paralava cutting gehlenite-flamite hornfels and formed at >1100° C from the relatively fast crystallization of residual melt.

It is found associated with Hexacelsian, rankinite, gehlenite, pseudowollastonite, schorlomite, fluorapatite- fluorellestadite, minerals of the zadovite-aradite series, walstromite.

The name commemorates the geographical region of Gurim, Israel, its type locality.
