Henrymeyerite

Henrymeyerite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula Ba(Ti₇Fe²⁺)O₁₆.

It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system (space group I4/m). It is a member of the Coronadite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5–6; specific gravity 4; Reddish brown streak; Adamantine. Bireflectance: weak; brownish to grayish white luster.

IMA symbol Hmy, IMA status: approved, named in 1999.

Found in late-stage veins in association with metasomatized phoscorite-carbonatite rocks of an alkaline ultramafic complex (Kovodor, Russia).

It is found associated with Dolomite, fluorapatite, niobian anatase (?), tetra-ferriphlogopite, rimkorolgite, catapleiite, collinsite, pyrite (Kovodor, Russia); ferroan magnesite.

The mineral was named to honor Professor Henry O.A. Meyer (1937–1995) for his contributions to the petrology and mineralogy of mantle-derived xenoliths and kimberlitic rocks.
