Hereroite
Hereroite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula [Pb₃₂(O, )₂₁](AsO₄)₂[(Si,As,V,Mo)O₄]₂Cl₁₀.
It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group C2/c). It is a member of the Hereroite structural group.
Key properties: specific gravity 8.15; White streak; Adamantine. Bireflectance: Masked by yellowish orange internal reflections luster.
IMA symbol Hre, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.
Most likely a late-stage, low-temperature hydrothermal (epigenetic) reworking of primary Pb-Cu-Zn-Ag sulfides. Known from a single specimen purchased commercially.
It is found associated with Vladkrivovichevite, asisite, damaraite, kombatite, sahlinite, quartz, native copper, barysilite, hausmannite, jacobsite, manganite.
The name refers to the Herero people, one of the indigenous tribes in the region near the Kombat mine.
