Hydroxylclinohumite

Hydroxylclinohumite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Mg₉(SiO₄)₄(OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/b). It is a member of the Humite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6.5; specific gravity 3.13; White streak; Vitreous to dull luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Hchu, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

Found in Mg-skarn (calciphyric) rims on dolomitic marble xenoliths in gabbroic rocks and associated Fe-Ti ore.

It is found associated with Ferroan spinel, calcite.

Indicates the hydroxyl-dominant analogue of clinohumite.
