Hydroxylhedyphane

Hydroxylhedyphane is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula Ca₂Pb₃(AsO₄)₃(OH).

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P3). It is a member of the Apatite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4–5; specific gravity 6.205; Vitreous luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Hhdy, IMA status: approved, named in 2018.

Occurs as fracture-fillings cutting braunite and hausmannite ore in a complexly deformed and metamorphosed submarine, volcanogenic, massive sulfide deposit.

It is found associated with Calcite, barytocalcite.

The prefix indicates the (OH)-dominant analogue of hedyphane.
