Hydroxymanganopyrochlore

Hydroxymanganopyrochlore is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula (Mn,Th,Na,Ca,REE)₂(Nb,Ti)₂O₆(OH).

It crystallizes in the cubic crystal system (space group Fd-3m). It is a member of the Pyrochlore-Pyrochlore structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 5.398.

IMA symbol Hmpcl, IMA status: approved, named in 2012.

Found in small miarolitic cavities in sanidinite as a late pneumatolytic phase.

It is found associated with Sanidine, nosean, biotite, tephroite, jacobsite, and spinellides of the gahnite–hercynite series.

Reflects the mineral’s identity as a member of the pyrochlore group with dominant OH (hydroxyl) and Mn2+ respectively in the Y and A structural sites.
