Iimoriite-(Y)

Iimoriite-(Y) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Y₂(SiO₄)(CO₃).

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5–6; specific gravity 4.47; White streak; Vitreous to resinous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Iim-Y, IMA status: approved, named in 1967.

Found in quartz-microcline pegmatite (Fusamata, Japan); in veins in peralkalic riebeckite-aegirine granite (Bokan Mountain, Alaska, USA).

It is found associated with Biotite, monazite, fergusonite, uraninite, thalenite (Fusamata, Japan); quartz, albite, siderite, pyrite, fluorite, sphalerite, galena, zircon (Bokan Mountain.

The name refers to Takeo Iimori and Satoyasu Iimori (1885{?), Japanese mineralogists, and yttrium in the composition.
