It crystallizes in the tetragonal crystal system (space group P4_2/n). It is a member of the Perovskite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 3.81; Yellow-brown streak; Vitreous to subadamantine luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Jbd, IMA status: approved, named in 1980.

Found in the oxide zone of polymetallic hydrothermal deposits.

It is found associated with Wickmanite, fluorapatite, stannite, pyrite, jamesonite, cassiterite, wolframite, bismuthinite, franckeite, crandallite, quartz (Llallagua, Bolivia); natanite.

The mineral was named to honor Jean A. Bandy, Wickenburg, Arizona, USA, who, with her husband Mark Bandy, translated Agricola’s De Natura Fossilium from original Latin.
