Kasatkinite

Kasatkinite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Ba₂Ca₈B₅Si₈O₃₂(OH)₃·6H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/c).

Key properties: Mohs hardness 4–4.5; specific gravity 2.95; White streak; Vitreous to silky luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Ksk, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.

Of hydrothermal origin in cavities in rhodingite.

It is found associated with Prehnite, pectolite, calcite, clinochlore; or grossular, diopside, chrysotile, pectolite, minerals of the tobermorite and hydrotalcite families.

The mineral was named to honor Russian amateur mineralogist and mineral collector Anatoly V. Kasatkin (b. 1970).
