Kemmlitzite

Kemmlitzite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula SrAl₃(AsO₄)(SO₄)(OH)₆.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system. It is a member of the Alunite-beudantite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 3.63; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Kml, IMA status: approved, named in 1967.

Found in a kaolinized quartz porphyry, in a heavy-fraction separate of undetermined origin as to primary or secondary formation.

It is found associated with Kaolinite, zircon, anatase, apatite, 13 other less-abundant heavy minerals.

The name is derived from the locality of the first specimens, Kemmlitz, Germany.
