Kinichilite
Kinichilite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the oxides & hydroxide class, with the chemical formula Mg₀.₅Mn²⁺Fe³⁺(Te⁴⁺O₃)₃·4.5H₂O.
It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6_3/m). It is a member of the Zemannite structural group.
Key properties: specific gravity 4.11; Brown streak; Subadamantine luster; optically uniaxial.
IMA symbol Kni, IMA status: approved, named in 1979.
Found as a very rare mineral in low-temperature hydrothermal Au–Ag–Te quartz veins.
It is found associated with Quartz.
The mineral was named to honor Dr. Kin-ichi Sakurai (1912–), prominent collector and amateur mineralogist, for his descriptions of tellurium minerals from the Kawazu mine, Japan.
