Klajite
Klajite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula MnCu₄(AsO₄)₂(AsO₃OH)₂·9H₂O.
It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1). It is a member of the Lindackerite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 2–3; specific gravity 3.213; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Klj, IMA status: approved, named in 2010.
Formed by the weathering induced decomposition of enargite in material from the ore dumps of an epithermal high-sulphidation Cu-Au-As mineral deposit.
It is found associated with Enargite, quartz, gypsum, jarosite.
The mineral was named to honor Sándor Klaj (b. 1948), the Hungarian mineral collector who provided the first specimens.
