Kozoite-(Nd)

Kozoite-(Nd) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the carbonate class, with the chemical formula Nd(CO₃)(OH).

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pmcn). It is a member of the Ancylite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 4.77; Vitreous to dull luster.

IMA symbol Koz-Nd, IMA status: approved, named in 1998.

By post-magmatic hydrothermal activity in cavities and fissures in alkali olivine basalt.

It is found associated with Kozoite-(Nd), lanthanite- (Nd), lanthanite- (La), kimuraite-(Y).

The mineral was named to honor Kozo Nagashima (1925-1985), a Japanese chemist, for his contributions to the mineralogy, chemistry, and crystallography of rare earth minerals.
