Landauite

Landauite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the halide class, with the chemical formula (Na,Pb)(Mn²⁺,Y)(Zn,Fe)₂(Ti,Fe³⁺,Nb)₁₈(O,OH,F)O₃₈.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group R-3). It is a member of the Crichtonite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 7.5; specific gravity 4.42; Gray streak; Submetallic luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Lda, IMA status: approved, named in 1965.

An accessory mineral in albite veins cutting syenite pegmatite in association with an alkalic pluton.

It is found associated with Albite, polylithionite, brookite, chabazite, monazite, bastnäsite, murataite.

The mineral was named to honor Lev Davidovich Landau (1908–1968), noted Russian physicist.
