Magnesiobermanite

Magnesiobermanite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula MgMn³⁺₂(PO₄)₂(OH)₂·4H₂O.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1). It is a member of the Arthurite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3.5; specific gravity 2.75; Salmon-pink streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Mbrm, IMA status: approved, named in 2019.

Found in zoned granitic pegmatite. Formed from secondary phosphate minerals, that had been formed by metasomatic alteration of magmatic fluorapatite, by hydrothermal alteration and weathering in an oxidizing, low-temperature.

It is found associated with Fluorapatite, leucophosphite, jahnsite-(NaFeMg), ushkovite, laueite, perloffite, mitridatite.

The prefix identifies the Mg-analogue of bermanite.
