Manganiandrosite-(Ce)

Manganiandrosite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula MnCe(Mn³⁺AlMn²⁺)[Si₂O₇][SiO₄]O(OH).

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Epidote, allanite structural group.

Key properties: Reddish brown streak; Vitreous to adamantine luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Mna-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2002.

Found in metamorphosed (eclogite facies) lenses near Mn deposits in association with ophiolite.

It is found associated with Tephroite, Mn-pyroxenoid, hematite, calderite; or spessartine, calderite, hematite, pyrophanite.

The Ce analogue of manganiandrosite-(La). An epidote-group mineral in which Mn2+ is dominant in A1, REE are dominant in A2, Mn 3+ in M1, Al in M2.
