Mauriziodiniite

Mauriziodiniite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula (NH₄)(As₂O₃)₂I.

It crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system (space group P6/mmm). It is a member of the Lucabindiite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 1; specific gravity 3.977; White streak; Pearly to adamantine luster; optically uniaxial.

IMA symbol Mzd, IMA status: approved, named in 2019.

A secondary alteration phase formed by the oxidation of native arsenic and other As-bearing primary phases, followed by later alteration by saline fluids derived from evaporating meteoric water under hyperarid conditions.

It is found associated with Calcite, cuatrocapaite-(NH4), lavendulan, magnesiokoritnigite, torrecillasite, on matrix of native arsenic, arsenolite, pyrite.

The mineral was named to honor Maurizio Dini of La Serena, Chile (b. 1968).
