Metaköttigite

Metaköttigite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the arsenate class, with the chemical formula (Zn,Fe³⁺)₃(AsO₄)₂·8(H₂O,OH).

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system. It is a member of the Symplesite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 3.03; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Mköt, IMA status: approved, named in 1979.

A rare secondary mineral from the oxide zone of an arsenic-rich polymetallic mineral deposit, formed by oxidation and concomitant dehydrogenization of ferroan köttigite.

It is found associated with Köttigite, smithsonite, adamite, goethite.

The name refers to its dimorphous relation to köttigite, and by analogy to metavivianite.
