Mozartite

Mozartite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula CaMn³⁺(SiO₄)(OH).

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group P2_12_12_1). It is a member of the Adelite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 3.63; Red streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Moz, IMA status: approved, named in 1991.

Found in veins cutting massive braunite in ophiolitic metacherts.

It is found associated with Pectolite, hausmannite, calcite, quartz.

The name refers to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791), discovered in the 200th year after his death.
