Natropalermoite

Natropalermoite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula Na₂SrAl₄(PO₄)₄(OH)₄.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system. It is a member of the Carminite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5; specific gravity 3.502; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Npl, IMA status: approved, named in 2013.

Found in a complex, phosphate-bearing granitic pegmatite, formed by hydrothermal alteration of primary triphylite pods in the core-margin zone of the pegmatite.

It is found associated with Palermoite, eosphorite, childrenite, lefontite, quartz.

Reflects the presence of sodium (natrium) and the structural isomorphism to palermoite.
