Nickelboussingaultite
Nickelboussingaultite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfate class, with the chemical formula (NH₄)₂Ni(SO₄)₂·6H₂O.
It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/n). It is a member of the Picromerite structural group.
Key properties: Mohs hardness 2.5; specific gravity 1.85; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Nbsg, IMA status: approved, named in 1975.
Found in an underground nickel ore stockpile, around and on a wooden timber, and on “limonite” (Noril’sk, Russia).
It is found associated with Pentlandite, chalcopyrite, “limonite” (Noril’sk, Russia); wupatkiite, hydrohonessite, pickeringite (Cameron, Arizona, USA).
As the nickel-bearing analog of boussingaultite.
