Nisbite

Nisbite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the sulfide class, with the chemical formula NiSb₂.

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnnm). It is a member of the Löllingite structural group.

Key properties: specific gravity 8; Metallic luster.

IMA symbol Nis, IMA status: approved, named in 1969.

Very rare in a high-grade base-metal sulfide deposit in altered mafic rock (Trout Bay, Canada); in Pb–Zn–Cu–Ag ore deposits remobilized by hydrothermal solutions from younger granite emplacement (Bergslagen, Sweden).

It is found associated with Chalcopyrite, breithauptite, pyrargyrite, galena, pyrrhotite, tetrahedrite (Trout Bay, Canada); costibite, paracostibite, oenite, allargentum, bismuth.

The name refers to the composition, NIckel and SB, from the chemical symbol for antimony, stibium.
