Paraershovite

Paraershovite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula Na₃K₃Fe³⁺₂(Si₄O₁₀OH)₂(OH)₂(H₂O)₄.

It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1). It is a member of the Ershovite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 3; specific gravity 2.6; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Psh, IMA status: approved, named in 2009.

Found in hyperagpaitic pegmatite cutting ijolite-urtite, in association with nepheline syenites as an oxidized product of epithermal alteration of ershovite.

It is found associated with Sodalite, aegirine, arfvedsonite, pectolite, shcherbakovite, lamprophyllite, lomonosovite, shafranovskite, villiaumite, natrophosphate.

The name refers to it structural, chemical and genetic relation to the ershovite, for which it is the Na- deficient, Fe3+-dominant analog. The prefix derived from the Greek para for “close by”.
