Pattersonite
Pattersonite is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the phosphate class, with the chemical formula PbFe₃(PO₄)₂(OH)₅·H₂O.
It crystallizes in the triclinic crystal system (space group P-1).
Key properties: Mohs hardness 4.5; specific gravity 4.04; Very pale yellow streak; Adamantine luster; optically biaxial.
IMA symbol Patt, IMA status: approved, named in 2005.
A secondary mineral on goethite in a weathered metallic sulfide mineral vein.
It is found associated with Kintoreite, goethite, pyromorphite.
The mineral was named to honor Arthur Lindo Patterson (1902–1966), who developed a method employing a Fourier series to generate a three-dimensional function.
