Perbøeite-(Ce)

Perbøeite-(Ce) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the silicate class, with the chemical formula (CaCe₃)(Al₃Fe²⁺)(Si₂O₇)(SiO₄)₃O(OH)₂.

It crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system (space group P2_1/m). It is a member of the Gatelite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 6–7; specific gravity 4.474; White streak; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Pbø-Ce, IMA status: approved, named in 2011.

A late primary phase in REE-bearing quartz-microcline pegmatite.

It is found associated with Yttrian fluorite, törnebohmite-(Ce), allanite-(Ce), bastnäsite-(Ce).

The mineral was named to honor Per Bøe (b. 1937), a Norwegian geologist and Curator at the Tromsø Museum, who initiated the project that led to the discovery of this species.
