Pertsevite-(OH)

Pertsevite-(OH) is an IMA-recognized mineral species in the borate class, with the chemical formula Mg₂(BO₃)(OH).

It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system (space group Pnma). It is a member of the Pertsevite structural group.

Key properties: Mohs hardness 5.5–6.5; specific gravity 3.12; Vitreous luster; optically biaxial.

IMA symbol Psv-OH, IMA status: approved, named in 2008.

Found in ludwigite-kotoite magnesian skarn.

It is found associated with Kotoite, szaibelyite, ludwigite-azoproite, clinohumite, hydroxylclinohumite, forsterite, chondrodite, calcite, REE-bearing sakhaite, sphalerite, goethite.

The mineral was named to honor Nikolai Nikolayevich Pertsev, Russian mineralogist specializing in boron minerals and deposits and a suffix identifies the OH-dominant member of the series.
